Prof. Ruth N. Wanjau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Kenyatta University (KU) Nairobi, Kenya. She is passionate on mentoring youths and young ladies in STEM, and is a STEM mentor in the UNESCO-Kenya STEM program. She is the current student coordinator for peer counselors at KU; Chairperson of Githunguri Technical and Vocational College Board of Governors, Former Chairman, Kiambu County Education Board, A Board member of other institutions. Principal Investigator (PI) of the following research: Inclusive education made easy: an interactive learning resource for visually challenged learners in secondary schools in Kenya (KU VC Research Grant 2021); Women’s research grant, (NACOSTI 2013/2014), PI TOWA HIV and AIDS activities in KU-2013. Co-PI on Soil improvement using leaves and leaves extract for the growth of crops project (KU VC research grant 2014) Coordinated, AAU-EASRN HIV project 2011/2014 among other grants and a researcher in the ongoing KU-Women Economic Empowerment Project, funded by Bill and Melinda Gates. An affiliate member of African Foundation for Women and Youth in Education and STI. A member and treasurer of SISEP.
Her research interests are but not limited to: Analytical chemistry; environmental chemistry, food safety and security; extraction of mineral; inclusive and gender sensitive education. She is currently involved in commercialization of her innovative research findings. She is a passionate, inspiring and articulate mentor, with robust mentorship programs to students in high schools and Universities and colleges, with special interest to women groups on life issues.
